The pull-up is a foundational upper body exercise targeting the back and biceps. Begin by hanging from a pull-up bar with an overhand grip, hands slightly wider than shoulder-width, and arms fully extended. Initiate the movement by retracting and depressing your shoulder blades, then pull your body upwards until your chin clears the bar. Control the descent back to the starting position with fully extended arms.
Skip or adapt this movement if any of these apply — and check with a professional when in doubt.
