Hyrox Basel 2027: Dates, Venue, Travel and What Is Still TBA
Hyrox Basel runs 12–14 February 2027 at Messe Basel. The confirmed facts, the trams from both stations, the check-in rules — and why 2027 is a comeback rather than the debut the event page calls it.

Hyrox calls Basel a debut. It is actually a comeback — and that is the more interesting fact.
Hyrox Basel runs 12–14 February 2027 at Messe Basel, Messeplatz 10. If you are entered, almost everything you want to know — your start time, the course, when registration opens — is still unpublished, and this guide is honest about that rather than filling the gap with invention. What is fixed: the date, the venue, the check-in rules, and how you get to a hall that sits two tram stops from a German railway station and ten from a Swiss one.
In short: 12–14 February 2027, Messe Basel, Messeplatz 10. The race schedule, laps, registration times and course map were all TBA at this review — only the dates, the venue and the check-in rules are confirmed. Your individual start time is linked roughly three days before the event and cannot be changed. Bring a physical ID; a photo is refused. Tram 1 or 2 from Basel SBB takes about ten minutes; tram 2 or 6 from Badischer Bahnhof takes two stops. And Basel is not new to Hyrox — the city hosted a race in September 2022.
Status: 26 August 2026. Dates, venue and check-in rules from the official Hyrox Basel event page; access and parking from Messe Basel. Everything marked TBA below was still TBA at this review — this article gets updated as Hyrox publishes, and the status line changes with it.

Debut or comeback? The record says comeback
Hyrox's own event page manages both claims in the space of two paragraphs: Basel "returns … after a long-awaited break", and then, three sentences later, an invitation to "be part of the inaugural Hyrox Basel".
The results archives settle it. Basel hosted the opening race of the 2022/23 Hyrox season on 10 September 2022, at Messe Basel — the same venue — with a field of several hundred athletes across singles, doubles and relay, and three world records set on the day. Independent results platforms still carry the full division-by-division standings from it.
So February 2027 is a return after roughly four and a half years, not a first edition. That is not a pedantic distinction if you are choosing a race: it means the venue has already staged this event once and knows the floor, the load-in and the spectator flow — and it means the 2022 splits exist as a rough reference for what the hall does to run times, even if the course layout will be redrawn.
If you have read elsewhere that Basel 2027 is Hyrox's first visit to the city — including in an earlier version of our own Hyrox 2027 events calendar — that came from the "inaugural" line on the event page. The 2022 results are the stronger evidence.
What is confirmed, and what is not
Almost every Hyrox event page fills in over the months before the race. Basel is early in that cycle, so most of it is still empty. Confirmed:
- The dates and the venue. 12–14 February 2027, Messe Basel.
- The check-in requirements, which are the same at every Hyrox event and do not change late.
- The race package — finisher patch, per-station and per-run splits on the leaderboard, aid stations before, during and after, and an age-group ceremony in each division.
- The format, which is identical worldwide: 1 km run, one station, eight times.
Not published at this review: the race schedule (which divisions run on which day and in which window), laps to run, the relay briefing, early and race-day athlete registration times, the ceremony schedule and the course or venue map.
We are not going to guess at any of it. A schedule invented from another Swiss race would look plausible and send someone to Basel on the wrong day.
Your start time comes three days out
Two rules that already apply, even with the schedule unpublished:
- Hyrox links your individual start time approximately three days before the event. Until the provisional per-division schedule appears, you cannot even see your window — plan flexibly.
- Start times cannot be changed. Once assigned, that is your race.
For a February race in Basel this matters more than for an October race in Geneva, because a Friday morning wave in mid-February means travelling on the Thursday for most people, in a month when trains and roads can both be disrupted by weather.
Messe Basel: the venue
Messe Basel is the city's exhibition and congress centre, right in the middle of Basel rather than on an out-of-town ring road — which is unusual for a Hyrox venue and genuinely useful. Hotels, food and the old town are walking distance, so the weekend does not have to be a shuttle-bus operation.
Practically, that also means: no venue car park the size of an airport, a tram stop called Messeplatz directly outside, and a hall floor that is flat, hard and indoor-cool in February.
Getting there
Messe Basel's own access information gives the useful numbers:
From Basel SBB / SNCF. Tram 1 or 2 to Messeplatz, about 10 minutes. This is the route almost every Swiss athlete will use — Basel SBB is the main station for trains from Zurich, Bern, Lucerne and the Swiss Plateau.
From Badischer Bahnhof. Tram 2 or 6, two stops. If you are coming from Germany — Freiburg, Karlsruhe, the Rhine valley — this is the shorter route and it is worth checking whether your train serves Bad Bf rather than SBB.
From EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. About 15 minutes by car; by public transport, bus 50 to Basel SBB and then tram 1 or 2 to Messeplatz.
By car. A2, exit Messe, straight into the Messe Basel car park — around 1,200 spaces. In a city-centre location on a Saturday, treat that as a finite number rather than a guarantee.
A note worth checking at booking time: hotel guests in Basel normally receive a BaselCard at check-in, which includes free public transport in Basel and the surrounding area for the duration of the stay. It covers exactly the trams above. Confirm it when you book — the terms are set by the city and the hotels, not by Hyrox.
February is closer than it looks
A 12-week block for Basel starts in late November. Running, compromised running, the sled and the eight stations — built backwards from your race weekend and around the days you can actually train.
Racing in February in Basel
The race is indoors, so the weather does not touch the course. It touches everything around it.
Warm up longer than you would in October. You will arrive cold, from a cold tram, into a hall that is heated for spectators in coats rather than for athletes in a vest. Give the warm-up ten to fifteen minutes rather than five, and keep a layer on until close to your call-up.
Bring more dry clothing than feels necessary. One shirt to race in, one to change into, and something warm for the tram back. A February evening in Basel after a Hyrox is not the moment to discover you packed for autumn.
Build travel margin for winter. Rail disruption in February is ordinary rather than exceptional. If you draw an early wave and you are coming from beyond the region, the night before in Basel costs a hotel room and removes the entire failure mode.
Check-in and what you must bring
The same four rules apply as at every Hyrox event, and each of them turns athletes away:
−120 min
Arrive
Park, find the hall, locate check-in and the bag drop before you think about warming up. Venues are bigger than they look.
−90 min
Check in
ID and your registration confirmation, bib collected, chip on the shoe. Doing this early is what buys you a calm hour.
−30 min
Warm up
Easy running, then a short sled push and ten wall balls so the first station is not the first rep of the day.
−5 min
Corral
You are called in waves. Shoes tied twice, nothing in your hands, the first kilometre planned slower than it feels right.
- A physical ID. Digital copies and photographs are not accepted.
- You check in for yourself. Not for your Doubles partner, not for a friend.
- Only on your own race day. During race weekend you cannot check in a day early.
- All four items or you do not race: athlete wristband, venue access wristband, ankle strap with timing chip, and bib number.
When your training block needs to start
A 12-week block for a 12 February race starts around 20 November 2026 — that is race weekend minus three months, which is a planning date rather than a rule. Sixteen weeks pushes the start back to late October and gives a gentler base phase, which is usually the better choice if you are coming from a low running volume.
Weeks 1–3
Base
Raise weekly running volume and re-learn the eight stations clean and unhurried. Nothing here is fast.
Weeks 4–7
Build
Compromised running: the station goes straight into the run. This is the block that makes race pace feel possible.
Weeks 8–10
Race specific
Full simulations, sled and wall-ball volume at race weight, transitions rehearsed rather than improvised.
Weeks 11–12
Taper
Volume drops, intensity stays. A taper spends nothing — it banks, so you arrive fresh.
Less runway is not a reason to skip the race; it changes what the block prioritises. With six or eight weeks you sharpen compromised running and station efficiency instead of rebuilding an aerobic base. What you want to avoid is entering in December and working out the plan in the first week of February.
If Basel is your first Hyrox, your first Hyrox race covers pacing and the mistakes that cost first-timers the most; if you are weighing Open against Pro, the Pro division benchmarks show what the heavier weights actually cost in finish time. Racing in Switzerland sooner? Hyrox Geneva runs 9–11 October 2026.
Race-day checklist
- Physical ID — the one thing that ends the weekend if you forget it
- Hyrox account access, and the individual start time you checked in race week
- Race shoes with a firm, grippy sole
- Race kit, a dry change, and a warm layer for a February evening
- Your usual drink and post-race food; nothing new
- Travel and, if your wave is early, a Basel hotel booked around your actual start time
- The tram plan: SBB → tram 1/2, or Bad Bf → tram 2/6, to Messeplatz
Frequently asked questions
When and where is Hyrox Basel 2027?
Friday 12 to Sunday 14 February 2027 at Messe Basel, Messeplatz 10, 4005 Basel. Which day you race depends on your division and your ticket — the per-division race schedule had not been published at this review.
Is Hyrox Basel 2027 the first Hyrox in Basel?
No. Basel hosted the opening race of the 2022/23 season on 10 September 2022, at the same venue. Hyrox's current event page describes the 2027 race both as a return after a break and as "inaugural"; the 2022 results archives support the former.
How do I get to Messe Basel from the station?
From Basel SBB take tram 1 or 2 to Messeplatz, about ten minutes. From Badischer Bahnhof take tram 2 or 6, two stops. From EuroAirport, bus 50 to Basel SBB and then tram 1 or 2.
When will the Hyrox Basel start times be published?
Hyrox publishes a provisional per-division schedule on the event page ahead of the race, and links your individual start time roughly three days before the event. Neither was available at this review, and start times cannot be changed once assigned.
The bottom line
- 12–14 February 2027, Messe Basel — the dates, the venue and the check-in rules are the confirmed part.
- Basel is a comeback, not a debut. The city raced Hyrox in September 2022 at the same venue.
- Nearly everything else is still TBA — schedule, laps, registration times, course map. Treat any detailed Basel course description published today as invention.
- A 12-week block starts around 20 November 2026. February arrives faster than an entry made in autumn suggests.
