Protein Bars in Switzerland: The Best Bars at Coop, Migros, Aldi & Lidl Compared (+ Protein Drinks)
Compare 21 protein bars in Switzerland, including Lee-Sport, by price, protein source and added sugar. Coop, Migros and Lee-Sport checked 13 September 2026.

A protein bar in Switzerland costs anywhere from CHF 1.09 to CHF 4.50, and every wrapper says the same thing: a big number, "High Protein", low sugar. Two figures on the back decide whether a bar is actually any good — what you pay per 20 g of protein and how much protein you get per 100 calories.
On 6 September 2026 we compared bars at Coop, Migros, Aldi, Lidl and the brand shops using the same criteria. On 13 September 2026 we re-checked the Coop and Migros ranges and own-brand prices, and added the Lee-Sport bar range and its published ingredient lists. Aldi, Lidl and the other brand-shop figures remain the 6 September snapshot. This English version uses the same dated figures as the German refresh; it is not a new price survey.
The short answer: Our everyday value pick is Coop High Protein Riegel Choco — CHF 1.40 for 20 g of protein in 138 kcal, with no added sugar. Naturally occurring sugar, including sugar from milk ingredients, does not count as added sugar. For a collagen-free protein source, Sponser Protein Low Carb and Lee-Sport Whey Protein Bar are strong options.

View at the retailerCollagen or real protein?
This is the question the shelf actually turns on, and the answer is uncomfortable: the cheapest bars, and many that look best on paper, often use collagen.
Collagen hydrolysate and gelatine are protein sources, but collagen contains no tryptophan and is low in several essential amino acids. For muscle building they are not equivalent to whey, milk protein or soy. As one component of a snack that is fine — as the main source of your daily protein it is not.
What Swiss product pages actually declare:
-
Premier Protein: collagen hydrolysate 15% — with 50 g protein per 100 g, roughly a third of the declared protein.
-
Sponser Protein 50: food gelatine 12% plus wheat protein hydrolysate 15% — together more than the dairy protein.
-
Coop High Protein Riegel and Fulfil: collagen fourth and third in the ingredient list respectively.
-
Barebells, Chiefs, ESN Designer Bar, Migros High Protein Riegel (beef gelatine), Multipower: all declare collagen or gelatine in the protein blend.
-
Lee-Sport High Protein Bar and Lee-Sport Protein Soft Bar explicitly list collagen hydrolysate and are excluded from our collagen-free recommendations.
Nine verified bars without collagen
For a bar that contributes to your muscle-building protein intake, these nine products in the expanded comparison have published ingredient lists without collagen or gelatine:
| Bar | Protein | kcal | Price | Protein source | Our assessment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sponser Protein Low Carb | 14 g | 165 | CHF 3.20 | Milk protein | Our protein-quality pick in the supermarket comparison |
| Lee-Sport Whey Protein Bar | 17 g | 219 | CHF 2.19* | Whey protein | Whey as its protein source, no collagen |
| MyProtein Impact Layered | 20 g | 235 | CHF 2.98 | Whey, soy, milk protein | 20 g of a high-quality protein blend |
| Lee-Sport Protein Crisp Bar | 15 g | 136–157 | CHF 2.19* | Soy + milk/whey, depending on flavour | Good protein density; four flavours |
| Lee-Sport Protein Crunch Bar | 15 g | 168–173 | CHF 2.19* | Soy + milk protein | No collagen, but more sugar than Smooth/Crisp |
| PowerBar 30% Protein Plus | 17 g | 195 | CHF 2.95 | Casein, whey, soy | No collagen; higher in sugar and more oriented towards sport/endurance |
| Lee-Sport Protein Smooth Bar | 13 g | 153 | CHF 2.90 | Milk protein + soy protein | Low in sugar, no collagen |
| Chiefs Plant Protein | 13 g | 203 | CHF 3.25 | Plant protein | Vegan and collagen-free, but less protein per calorie |
| Lee-Sport Bio Protein Bar | 11.3 g | 177 | CHF 2.19* | Sunflower, pea, pumpkin-seed protein | Vegan, organic and collagen-free |
* Lee-Sport's regular 10-pack price for Whey, Crisp, Crunch and Bio Protein Bars was CHF 21.90: CHF 2.19 per bar. Temporary sale prices are excluded throughout this comparison.
Protein quality: Sponser Protein Low Carb remains our pick within the supermarket comparison, using milk protein alone. Lee-Sport adds a direct manufacturer-shop option: its Whey Protein Bar uses whey protein and belongs in the same high-quality group for muscle building. Without published amino-acid or leucine figures, we cannot responsibly declare an absolute winner between pure whey and pure milk protein.
The Lee-Sport Protein Brownie also has no collagen or gelatine in its published ingredients and provides 20 g of protein per 60 g brownie. It is not counted as a tenth bar because it is a brownie, not a conventional protein bar.
Collagen-free does not automatically mean better overall. Price, calories, protein quantity and the rest of your diet still matter. If the bar replaces chocolate, the affordable Coop option remains attractive. For a deliberate contribution to your muscle-building protein intake, the collagen-free products above are the stronger choices.
Winners with no added sugar
This ranking considers added sugar only. Naturally occurring sugar — such as lactose from milk protein or milk powder — does not disqualify a bar. A nutrition label showing 1–4 g of total sugars can therefore still describe a product with 0 g added sugar. Sweeteners such as maltitol or sucralose are not added sugar.

| Category | Winner | Added sugar | Protein | kcal | Price | Collagen-free? | Why we chose it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Value for money | Coop High Protein Riegel Choco | 0 g | 20 g | 138 | CHF 1.40 | No | 20 g of protein for CHF 1.40; Coop explicitly declares no added sugar |
| Value without collagen | Lee-Sport Whey Protein Bar | 0 g* | 17 g | 219 | CHF 2.19 | Yes | CHF 2.58 per 20 g of whey protein, the lowest price among the verified collagen-free bars with no added sugar |
| Supermarket protein quality | Sponser Protein Low Carb | 0 g* | 14 g | 165 | CHF 3.20 | Yes | Milk protein, no collagen or gelatine; no added sugar in the ingredient list |
| Direct-shop protein quality | Lee-Sport Whey Protein Bar | 0 g* | 17 g | 219 | CHF 2.19 | Yes | Whey protein; its 3.9 g of total sugars come from the ingredients, with maltitol used to sweeten it |
| Vegan and collagen-free | Chiefs Plant Protein | 0 g | 13 g | 203 | CHF 3.25 | Yes | Plant protein and no added sugar |
| Chocolate-bar replacement | Barebells Salty Peanut | 0 g | 20 g | 203 | CHF 3.40 | No | 20 g of protein; the manufacturer declares no added sugar |
| Very low total sugar | ESN Designer Bar† | 0 g | 14–15 g | 178–191 | CHF 3.25 | No | No added sugar and very little naturally occurring sugar, depending on flavour |
| Another collagen-free Lee-Sport option | Lee-Sport Protein Smooth Bar | 0 g* | 13 g | 153 | CHF 2.90 | Yes | Milk/soy protein, sweetened with maltitol; no added sugar in the ingredient list |
* For Sponser and the two Lee-Sport bars, no added sugar is identified in the published ingredient list; this is an ingredient-list assessment, not a separate laboratory measurement. Naturally occurring sugars remain in the nutrition figures.
† ESN's no-added-sugar statement applies to its current Designer Bar flavours except Peanut Caramel.
The Lee-Sport value calculation is CHF 2.19 ÷ 17 g × 20 g = CHF 2.58 per 20 g protein. It is our value winner when both no added sugar and no collagen are required. Sponser remains our supermarket pick for readers who prioritise the protein source over price.

* Lee-Sport unit prices are calculated from the regular CHF 21.90 10-pack. ** PowerBar 30% Protein Plus uses added invert-sugar and fructose syrups. Lee-Sport's Protein Crunch Bar, Bio Protein Bar and some Protein Crisp Bar flavours also contain added sugar or syrups. Many other bars use sweeteners such as maltitol or sucralose instead. Products with added sugar are excluded from the no-added-sugar ranking above.
Citable raw data: the survey as a versioned dataset
The tables above are editorially curated: rounded per-bar figures, so you can compare at the shelf. If you want to recalculate or cite the numbers, the survey also exists as a versioned dataset — per product the observed pack price, the declared protein per 100 g, the derived metric CHF per 100 g protein, the collection date and the source URL. The table below renders directly from that dataset and sorts by any column; media and other sites are welcome to reuse the numbers with attribution.
Coverage of this dataset version: a partial sample — nine Lee-Sport bar variants from five directly retrieved retailer pages. It is not a Swiss market survey and crowns no nationwide winner; Coop, Migros, drinks and powders are not yet freshly collected.
Price basis: Observed online pack price; shipping and volume discounts excluded. A multi-bar pack is priced as the pack, never restated as a per-bar shelf price.
CHF per 100 g protein is computed from the declared protein per 100 g and the full pack mass — not from the rounded per-bar protein figure, which is why it can differ slightly from the editorial per-bar table above.

Where to buy what
Coop: five own-brand options and a wider branded range
At the 13 September 2026 check, Coop's bars category contained 127 products. That does not mean 127 protein bars: it also includes energy bars, oat bars, other snack bars and energy balls. Product-level nutrition matters more than the category count.
Coop's High Protein range had five listed variants:
| Coop High Protein | Size | Price | Price / 100 g |
|---|---|---|---|
| Choco | 40 g | CHF 1.40 | CHF 3.50 |
| Caramel | 40 g | CHF 1.40 | CHF 3.50 |
| Cocoa Peanut | 40 g | CHF 1.40 | CHF 3.50 |
| Cookies & Cream | 45 g | CHF 1.95 | CHF 4.33 |
| Choco Brownie | 45 g | CHF 1.95 | CHF 4.33 |
The earlier description listing only Choco and Choco Brownie was incomplete. The branded range also included Barebells Salty Peanut (55 g, CHF 3.40), ESN Designer Bar Cinnamon Cereal (45 g, CHF 3.25), Chiefs Protein Core Choco Pretzel (40 g, CHF 2.95) and Sponser Proteinriegel Crunchy Peanut (70 g, CHF 3.50). Price per bar alone says nothing about protein quantity or quality; use the comparison table for those.
Migros: 36 search results and three own-brand variants
Migros' search for “protein bar” returned 36 results on 13 September 2026, including Chiefs, Barebells, Sponser, Premier Protein, More Nutrition, ESN, Nakd, Y-Food, Trek, Be-Kind and Clif. This is also not a count of conventional high-protein bars alone.
| Migros High Protein | Size | Regular price |
|---|---|---|
| Salted Caramel | 45 g | CHF 1.40 |
| Chocolate | 45 g | CHF 1.40 |
| Cookies & Cream | 45 g | CHF 1.40 |
The own-brand bar provides approximately 16 g of protein per 45 g bar. Nutrition varies slightly by flavour: Salted Caramel lists 188 kcal, 16 g of protein and 2 g of sugar per bar. All three variants use milk protein, beef gelatine and soy, so none qualifies as collagen-free.
Lee-Sport: five collagen-free bars plus a brownie
Lee-Sport's eight-product “Protein Riegel” category includes five conventional bars without collagen or gelatine in their published ingredient lists: Whey Protein Bar, Protein Smooth Bar, Bio Protein Bar, Protein Crisp Bar and Protein Crunch Bar. The Protein Brownie is also collagen-free but is counted separately.
The High Protein Bar and Protein Soft Bar both list collagen hydrolysate. The shared “High Protein” label therefore does not establish whether a Lee-Sport product is collagen-free.
For muscle building, the Whey Protein Bar offers 17 g of protein and 219 kcal in a 57 g bar, with whey as its declared protein source. The regular CHF 21.90 10-pack works out at CHF 2.19 per bar. Crisp provides 15 g at 136–157 kcal depending on flavour; Smooth provides 13 g at 153 kcal and 1.1 g of sugar. The vegan Bio bar provides 11.3 g at 177 kcal, giving it a lower protein density.
Lidl, Aldi and Denner
Lidl is the price floor: the Protein bar Neo works out at CHF 1.36 per 20 g, the cheapest anywhere. But Lidl publishes only protein per bar online — no calories, no sugar, no ingredients. Buying there means buying blind; the pack in store is the only source.
Aldi carries MULTINORM bars from CHF 1.49 (also with no published nutrition) and the Multipower Protein Layer. Denner runs no online food shop, so nothing there is verifiable — which is why Denner appears in no table here.
What the Swiss consumer test says
The one independent comparison is the Fédération romande des consommateurs test (Mieux choisir No. 153, May–June 2024, around 60 bars at Coop, Migros and Lidl). Its verdict: protein bars are expensive and superfluous.
Before adopting that, read the weighting. The FRC scored "free from sweeteners" at 45% of the total and protein content at just 15%. That is why every sweetener-based bar landed at 2.7–3.9 out of 10 while sweetener-free fruit-and-nut bars reached 7.4–8.1 — with less protein. If sweeteners are your dealbreaker, that test is the better guide. If your question is protein per franc and per calorie, the table above answers it.
Bar or drink?
For pure protein supply the milk-based drink wins: roughly 35–40 g of protein per 500 ml bottle at Coop or Migros, clean milk protein, no collagen — and cheaper per gram of protein than almost any bar. The bar's strength is convenience: shelf-stable, portable, no fridge.

Drinks as reviewed in June 2026 — not re-checked in this pass, so treat them as indicative.
| Drink | Portion | Protein | kcal | Sugar | Protein source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coop High Protein Drink Vanilla | 500 ml | ~40 g | ~280 | ~14 g* | Milk protein / skimmed milk |
| Coop High Protein Drink Choco-Nuts | 500 ml | ~35 g | ~300 | 0 g | Soy protein isolate |
| Migros Oh! High Protein Drink | 500 ml | ~35 g | ~245 | ~25 g | Milk protein (lactose-free) |
| Aldi Milsani High Protein Drink | 330 ml | ~35 g | ~214 | ~17 g* | Milk protein / skimmed milk |
| Emmi Energy Milk High Protein | 330 ml | ~26 g | ~205 | ~16 g* | Milk protein |
* In milk drinks the sugar is mostly natural milk sugar (lactose), not added sugar. Values marked "~" are calculated up from per-100 ml figures.

Frequently asked questions
Which protein bar is cheapest in Switzerland?
At the full 6 September 2026 check, Coop High Protein Riegel Choco (40 g, CHF 1.40, 20 g protein) was the cheapest bar with fully published nutrition: CHF 1.40 per 20 g protein. The CHF 1.40 Coop price was confirmed again on 13 September. Migros' three own-brand variants also cost CHF 1.40 but provide around 16 g per 45 g bar. Lidl Protein bar Neo is cheaper per bar (CHF 1.09, 16 g), but its full nutrition table was not published online; check the pack.
Which protein bars have no added sugar?
The verified options include Coop High Protein Riegel Choco, Barebells Original Bars, ESN Designer Bar (except Peanut Caramel) and Chiefs Plant Protein. The published ingredient lists for Sponser Protein Low Carb, Lee-Sport Whey Protein Bar and Lee-Sport Protein Smooth Bar also show no added sugar. Naturally occurring lactose is allowed in this assessment; added sugar or sweetening syrups are not. Maltitol and sucralose are sweeteners, not added sugar. For no added sugar and no collagen, choose Sponser Low Carb, Lee-Sport Whey, Lee-Sport Smooth or Chiefs Plant Protein.
Which protein bars do Coop and Migros sell?
On 13 September 2026, Coop listed five High Protein variants: Choco, Caramel and Cocoa Peanut (40 g, CHF 1.40), plus Cookies & Cream and Choco Brownie (45 g, CHF 1.95). Its 127-product bars category also includes energy and snack bars. Migros returned 36 results for “protein bar”; its own-brand Salted Caramel, Chocolate and Cookies & Cream each cost CHF 1.40 for 45 g. Both shops also carry branded products; the retailer sections above distinguish those from the own brands.
Which protein bars are collagen-free?
Our expanded comparison verifies nine conventional bars: Sponser Protein Low Carb, Lee-Sport Whey Protein Bar, MyProtein Impact Layered, Lee-Sport Protein Crisp Bar, Lee-Sport Protein Crunch Bar, PowerBar 30% Protein Plus, Lee-Sport Protein Smooth Bar, Chiefs Plant Protein and Lee-Sport Bio Protein Bar. Lee-Sport Protein Brownie is also collagen-free but is not counted as a conventional bar. Pure milk protein in Sponser and whey in Lee-Sport Whey make them particularly interesting for muscle building.
Are all Lee-Sport protein bars collagen-free?
No. Five conventional bars in the reviewed category are collagen-free, but High Protein Bar and Protein Soft Bar contain collagen hydrolysate. Check the ingredient list rather than relying on the “High Protein” name.
Protein bar or protein drink — which is better?
For pure protein supply, a milk-based drink usually wins: 26–40 g of protein per bottle, without collagen. A bar's strength is convenience — shelf-stable and portable, it can replace chocolate on the go. The drink figures here are indicative June 2026 values, not part of the September re-check.
What should a good protein bar have?
Our shopping guide is 15–20 g of protein, roughly under 220 kcal, at least 9 g of protein per 100 kcal, low sugar, and a protein source mainly from milk, whey, casein, soy or pea. These are practical comparison criteria, not medical thresholds. Collagen or gelatine near the top of the ingredients means the front-of-pack protein number alone is less useful for choosing a muscle-building protein source.
The bottom line
- Everyday value, no added sugar: Coop High Protein Riegel Choco provides 20 g of protein in 138 kcal for CHF 1.40; it contains collagen.
- No added sugar and no collagen: Lee-Sport Whey is our value pick at CHF 2.58 per 20 g protein; Sponser Low Carb is our supermarket protein-quality pick.
- Read the specific product: nine collagen-free bars are verified, including five from Lee-Sport. Its High Protein Bar and Protein Soft Bar still contain collagen.
- Compare the whole label: protein source, protein per 100 kcal, sugar and price all matter. The lowest price per bar is not necessarily the best fit for your diet.

Sources and method: The full bar comparison was recorded on 6 September 2026; Coop, Migros and Lee-Sport were re-checked on 13 September 2026 for the German refresh, whose figures are reproduced here. The added-sugar ranking also uses the published flavour-specific ESN nutrition and product data from Coop, Migros, Sponser and Lee-Sport. Drinks were last reviewed in June 2026 and remain indicative.
Prices, nutrition and ingredients come from retailer product, community and category pages at Coop, Migros and Migipedia, Lee-Sport, ESN, Sponser, Lidl and Aldi, plus the MyProtein and Multipower manufacturer pages. The source pages may be in German; values are not estimated because an English page is unavailable. Missing Lidl nutrition remains marked n/a, rather than filled in from another product.
