The Barbell Hack Squat is a unique lower body exercise that emphasizes the quadriceps and glutes. To set up, stand with the barbell behind your legs, resting on your upper calves/lower hamstrings, typically with a slightly narrower stance than a traditional squat. Initiate the movement by squatting down, keeping your chest upright and the bar close to your body, driving through your heels to return to the starting position. This variation allows for a more upright torso and often deeper squat, intensely targeting the quads.
Skip or adapt this movement if any of these apply — and check with a professional when in doubt.
