Standing Calf Raises primarily target the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles of the lower leg. To perform, stand with the balls of your feet on an elevated surface (or flat ground), allowing your heels to drop below the level of your toes. Rise up onto the balls of your feet, lifting your heels as high as possible, then slowly lower your heels back down, stretching the calves at the bottom. The intent is to build strength and hypertrophy in the calf muscles through a full range of motion.
Skip or adapt this movement if any of these apply — and check with a professional when in doubt.
